Bear One Another’s Burdens

It’s just getting into fly season. All the flies have discovered the wonderful tasting (to them!!) nourishment of biting everything on sight on our ranch, including me (*slap* “Gotcha!”)  and our horses. Two of our horses, Smoky and Ammy, will stand together, his head down by her tail and her head by his tail. When Smoky twitches at some flies, his tail also brushes over her face and wipes the flies away from an area that they have no ‘fly swatter’. And they will stand there like that all day, helping each other. They are ‘bearing one another’s burdens’, in a horsey way. =)

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

What are burdens? I looked up burdens and this is what I came up with. “(1.) A load of any kind. (2.) A severe task. (3.) A difficult duty, requiring effort. (4.) A prophecy of a calamitous or disastrous nature.” Easton’s Bible Dictionary

Have you ever had anyone give you a compliment on a bad day? Anyone ever say the right thing at the right time? Give you a helping hand when you really needed one yet hadn’t asked? Just came over and cried or laughed with you? Listened to you when you needed it? Pulled extremely funny faces that would even make Mr. Grumpy Pants roll on the ground in laughter? Sent you a card or letter, maybe an email, saying they were thinking and praying for you?

“For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:14

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35 (Jesus talking)

Have you ever heard the song, ‘Angel By Your Side’ by Francesca Battistelli? It’s one of my favorite songs and is constantly reminding me to…well, be the angel by my friend’s side. The chorus goes like this:

“I’ll be the angel by your side
I will get you through the night
I’ll be the strength you can’t provide on your own
‘Cause when you’re down and out of time
And you think you’ve lost the fight
Let me be the angel
The angel by your side”

Try looking around today, even if you are hurting yourself, and find a friend. Give them a note, listen to them, something to tell them how much you appreciate them. Try your mom or your daughter or son, your best friend, your sister, the girl that everyone picks on at school.

See what happens.
