Practical Set-Apartness

In this session, Leslie explained how to live and be set apart without losing your job because you are always on your face praying and reading the Bible.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other…”

Matthew 6:24

There is a lot of comprise going on in the church. A lot of people have noticed and grasp and cling closer to the ‘rules’ of black and white. Legalism. Half of us are scared of it, the other half is clinging to it.

The thing is…legalism isn’t going to help anyone or do anything for anyone. It’s just a bunch of rules that you force yourself to follow because that’s how you think that you get more ‘spiritual’.

It’s not.

Legalism oppresses, but true set-apartness liberates.

What are you doing for your free time? Do you flick through the channels of the TV? Do you surf the internet? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that anything is wrong with that! But do you do that first or do you run to your Savior first? Don’t let sin in for entertainment!

Corrie ten Boom and her sister changed the prisoners and guards around them through their relationship with Jesus, not the rules they followed!!

Do you want to be known for having the cutest clothes or for having a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ?

Leslie gave five idols that us as women struggle with.

  1. Worldly entertainment
  2. Health, Fitness and Beauty
  3. Marriage and Family
  4. Money and Possessions
  5. Personal Convictions

We also must come away from our feelings. Our feeling can lead us away as well when we start asking, ‘would a loving God really do that?’

“Do you think that a loving God would actually send people to hell?” or, “Do you think that a merciful God would actually practice ‘child abuse’ by sending His only Son to die a brutal death for a crime He didn’t even commit?”

To be a set-apart woman, you must learn to take the Word of God as FACT and command your feelings to agree with it.

Tune out any voice that would cause you to question His holy Word.

No opinion, idea, emotion or feeling has any value unless it lines up 100% with the unchanging Word of God.

Do not wait for your feelings to agree with Scripture before taking it as fact. Rather, accept God’s Truth as fact and command your feelings to agree with it.

If God said it, and He cannot lie, what more is there to discuss?

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
